Epoxy resin is a synthetic resin used in coatings and adhesives.
Polyurthane is various polymers used in foams and in resins as for coatings.

Epoxy is a two part reactive finish that must be mixed in a certain ratio for it to harden properly. Polyurethane Varnish is an Oxygen catalyzed finish that you simply brush on to the surface where exposure to oxygen causes it to harden.
